This post goes in-depth into what it costs to run Margin and my Personal things

Hetzner bill

We currently have a Hetzner Dedicated Server that we have been using for a couple of months already, this server is shared between me and 2 other friends

We run Proxmox on that server, and apart from hosting a few services in the server itself, we have 3 VPS (Virtual Private Servers), 1 for each

They are all the same specs:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 3900 (8 threads)

  • 32GB of RAM

  • ~1TB of storage

Dedicated Server:

  • 128GB of ECC DDR4 RAM

  • x2 1.79TB Enterprise SSD

  • AMD Ryzen 9 3900 (24 threads)

  • IPs: 4 Total (1 for each + 1 for OPNSense)

Total cost:

$61.90 USD total (divided by 3: $20.64 USD)

That's right, $20.64 USD, each, for a 32GB of ram, 8 threads, and 1TB of storage VPS.

Domains

I run 2 domains for Margin:

pretty cheap, I don't mind that, and we don't talk about how many domains I actually own apart from those

Cloudflare

Margin is part of Cloudflare's Project Alexandria, so we get the Pro plan for free!

Other

In the future, we might want to implement more things to Margin, move to an actual good global hosting provider (Fly, etc) and scale, which might cost money, but as of now the annual price to run Margin is of around $288.68 USD, which has already been covered in donations, now, I spent that donation money, but I will still ofc pay for Margin, anyways, that's it!
